I enjoy collaborating with the UNIKUM and participated as a spectator, musician and sound engineer. What makes it really special to me is the high artistic aspiration, the inclusion of social realities and weirdness of all sorts, their understanding of the process of art-making, the working in and with public spaces combined with being in nature, walking through natural and cultivated landscapes, and silence.
Some lines of their statement: “The UNIKUM University Cultural Centre is a place of applied cultural work that combines artistic practice and creative research. It sees itself as an aesthetic cell, a workshop and experimental space in which art and cultural projects are developed and realised.
The UNIKUM is committed to art that is situated in society and addresses social realities.
Contemporary, innovative and interdisciplinary art forms play an important role, especially in the fields of visual arts, music, literature and new media.
The environment of the University Cultural Centre is determined both locally and thematically by the university, the city and the country. The UNIKUM regards this environment as a living and creative space and thus as a challenge for artistic exploration. It sees its work as an aesthetic intervention in this space. The UNIKUM University Cultural Centre attempts to open up communicative interstices for art and science, for the university and non-university public. It wants to stimulate processes that reach beyond the institutional framework of the university and have an impact on the university.” (more here)
Parteitag der Kunst (Party congress for the Arts)
chaired by the unwavering architect with far-sighted vision: Margarethe Schütte-Lihotzky . Her 103 years of life were defined by her demands for (multi-)functional, economical and emancipatory architecture, social justice, pacifism and active resistance against fascism. As a heroine of the resistance and a political activist, she remained true to her ideals and convictions throughout her life.
In the spirit of the party chairwoman, the Philosophical Lab Series sets out as a party committee in search of the essential meaning of things and takes responsibility, with selected speakers, for a lively examination of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s values in today’s reality. In a specially installed party laboratory, artistic interventions are mixed with contributions from experts – active listening and participation are welcome.
